The most common oral disease of gums is gingivitis. Many people worldwide suffer from gum disease and want to reverse it without going to the dentist.

If you also want to reverse gingivitis but don’t know how to do it, then get ready because here we are going to take a look at how to treat gum diseases at home.

How To Treat Gum Disease At Home

There are many at-home remedies that you can use to treat gum disease. Here I will discuss some of the top remedies that effectively treat gum disease.

Salt Water Rinse

According to a study conducted in 2016, saltwater is considered one of the most effective treatments for gingivitis.

Saltwater is beneficial in healing gum infection and is also considered a natural disinfectant. Some of the benefits of saltwater are

  • Relax inflamed gums
  • Help in reducing pain
  • Kills bacteria
  • Remove food debris

This remedy not only helps in treating gum disease but also helps in treating bad breath.

For using saltwater

  • Mix one teaspoon of salt into a cup of lukewarm water and mix it
  • Now swish with the solution for 30 seconds
  • After that, make sure that you do not ingest the salt water and spit it out
  • Repeat this remedy 2 to 3 times a day

Please ensure not to overdo this because using salt water for a long time can harm your teeth’ enamel, and your tooth may erode because of its acidic properties.

Homemade Mouthwashes

Another very effective remedy for treating gum disease is homemade mouthwash. There are many types of herbs that you can use as a homemade mouthwash, and they will help you to prevent gingivitis. Some of these herbs are

Lemongrass Oil Mouthwash

According to a study conducted in 2015, lemongrass oil effectively reduces gingivitis and plaque. It is considered even more effective than the manufactured mouthwash of big companies.

For making lemongrass mouthwash, dilute 2 to 3 drops of lemongrass oil with the water and swish it around the mouth. You can repeat this two to three times a day.

Aloe Vera Mouthwash

 Aloe-Vera-Mouthwash

Aloe vera has a very long history of treating different skin burns and minor cuts. Well, it is also proven to be equally effective for the mouth. Researchers show that aloe vera is as effective as commercial toothpaste in reducing disease-causing bacteria.

Aloe vera is also proven to be much more effective in healing gums after gum surgery; applying aloe Vera gel immediately after gum surgery will help reduce the discomfort.

If you suffer from gum swelling and inflammation due to gum disease, you can also get relief with aloe vera.

There are many species of this plant, but only a few are effective for oral treatment, so make sure you use the right one.

For making aloe vera mouthwash, all you have to do is take aloe vera juice, swish it in your mouth

After that, spit it out and repeat it up to three times a day. Please ensure not to dilute aloe vera juice and use it without adding anything else. Aloe vera juice is extremely bitter, but this bitterness will give you healthy gums.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen-Peroxide

It Is considered one of the most effective ingredients for treating gum disease and is used in many types of mouthwash as well

Hydrogen peroxide is a mild antiseptic and is also helpful in preventing minor cuts and scrapes from infection.

Swishing with hydrogen peroxide will help relieve mouth irritation and kill bacteria that could lead to gum disease.

The peroxide penetrates deep into the bacteria and causes cell content coagulation which results in the death of bacteria

You can purchase hydrogen peroxide from any pharmacy in a 3% diluted solution.

You can also use diluted hydrogen peroxide in water flossers. With a water flosser, the stream of water penetrates deep into the gums pocket and helps remove and kill harmful bacteria.

We all drink green tea because of its benefits in weight loss.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and helps in reducing inflammation. Green tea not only helps in reducing inflammation but also strengthens the immune system. This will reduce the damage to the gums and jawbone.

Green tea contains a chemical name polyphenol which inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause gum diseases. Drinking green tea is not only beneficial for oral health but will also benefit your overall health.

You have to drink green tea every day but be careful if you are a little sensitive to caffeine because a cup of green tea has more caffeine than coffee.

Oil Pulling

One of the most effective methods for reducing gum disease is oil pulling. You can use different oils for Oil pulling, but one of the most effective oils are coconut oil and Arimedadi Oil

Oil pulling has several benefits, including teeth whitening eliminating bad breath, and relieving headaches. It also helps in treating sinusitis.

  • For Oil, pulling take 1 to 2 teaspoons of desired Oil into your mouth and swish it around for 20 to 30 minutes
  • Just be careful that the Oil doesn’t touch the back of your throat
  • Now spit the Oil out and swish your mouth with water
  • After that, you can drink a class full of water and brush your teeth

Oil pulling is considered a safe procedure because only organic ingredients are used. Just make sure that you are not swallowing the liquid, as it will contain toxins from bacteria.

Also, swishing it for less than 20 minutes is completely okay if you cannot swish the Oil for longer.

You can use coconut oil and Arimedadi Oil for oil pulling. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agent. On the other hand, Arimedadi oil is shown to stop the growth of bacteria and reduce plaque.
