You may be thinking about why you need to use mouthwash if you regularly brush your teeth. However, adding mouthwash to your daily routine makes a big difference.
Brushing your teeth is important as it helps clean your teeth and accessories such as braces. Mouthwash is important as it helps in protecting your oral cavity from infection and irritation.
Proper oral hygiene affects your overall health as gum disease, periodontitis, and free radicals present in the mouth can lead to the production of free radicals, which may lead to severe diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, etc.
Antibacterial mouthwash is extremely important for your oral health. Antibacterial mouthwash helps prevent infection and dental caries by killing all gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in the mouth. It also loosens hidden food particles, which will be removed when brushing. In addition to oral hygiene benefits, antibacterial mouthwash also relieves the pain due to infection in the mouth.
An antibacterial mouthwash helps to prevent conditions such as ulcers and canker sores.
Cepacol mouthwash reviews – 2023
According to the statistics for disease control and protection, 91% of adults once in a lifetime suffer from dental caries. That’s why antibacterial mouthwash is important for maintaining proper oral health.
Cepacol mouthwash is one of the most beneficial and effective mouthwashes for reducing caries. It is designed to reduce the risk of caries by 90%. Using an antibacterial mouthwash like cepacoll is recommended for people at risk of dental caries.
CPC based mouthwash
Cetylpyridinium chloride is a cationic surfactant. It always carries a positive charge. When used as an antibacterial agent in mouthwash, it helps bind with the cell membrane of bacteria and rupture it. By this, cellular membrane leaks, and bacteria are dead.
When CPC is used in cepacol mouthwash, it initiates a reaction that is supposed to decrease dental plaque and inhibits new plaque deposition. This mouthwash diminishes the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and inhibits the production of further virulent factors.
Cetylpyridinium chloride has quaternary ammonium compounds that demonstrate the characteristics of a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug. It is a positive cationic surfactant and readily absorbed on different surfaces. Due to this characteristic, it readily absorbs into oral cavity surfaces.
This compound is both hydrophilic and hydrophobic. The positively charged hydrophilic region of Cetylpyridinium chloride enables the compound to easily bond with the cell membrane surface and interfere with its metabolic activities, which inhibits bacterial metabolism and eventually kills it.
In addition to that, Cetylpyridinium chloride also inhibits the synthesis of bacterial products such as insoluble glucan by streptococcal glucosyltransferase. It is also absorbed in the pellicle of enamel and inhibits the adhesion of bacteria by destroying biofilm formed by Streptococcus mutans
Chelating effect
Cepacol mouthwash uses a chelating agent. Chelating agents react with minerals and convert them into easily soluble forms. Cepacol uses EDTA as a chelating agent. EDTA works by reacting with the mineral components such as phosphorus and calcium present in the calculus deposit on the surface of the enamel.
It softens the calculus and removes it from teeth. It has four calcium-binding sites. By this, it can form pairs with four calcium at a time, speeding up the process of removing the tartar.
Buffering agent
Our mouth has a pH of 7, but it can fluctuate greatly between 2 to 11 when we eat acidic or basic foods. When there is excessive plaque deposition in our mouth, the bacteria present in plaque form lactic acid, leading to a constantly dropped pH of the mouth. This acidity in the mouth can lead to enamel erosion.
Cepacol mouthwash has a solution for this, cepacol mouthwash uses sodium phosphate and disodium phosphate. These both act as buffering agents, which means they bring the mouth’s PH back to normal so enamel erosion can be prevented. They not only act as an anti-carious agent but also act as antibacterial agents as they change the pH of the mouth to the extent that bacteria can’t survive and die because of PH changes.
Beneficial sweetener
It contains an artificial sweetener saccharin (that is not glucose-based) to improve its taste. It is a calorie-free artificial sweetener, and it helps fight tooth decay and doesn’t become food for bacteria like other sweeteners.
Xerostomia
Unlike other mouthwash, which promotes dry mouth and xerostomia. This mouthwash contains beneficial ingredients that alter the symptom of dry mouth and help prevent it.
My opinion
As a dentist, I am always searching for products that I think may benefit myself and my patients. I was suffering from an issue of enamel erosion and was looking for a mouthwash that could sort out this problem. I came across cepacol mouthwash and decided to give it a try.
I bought one bottle and started using it twice a day after brushing to check its efficacy after just one week of trying it. It started showing visible results, and the issue of my enamel erosion was resolved.
After its beneficial results, I decided to recommend it to my patients. I recommend this mouthwash to a patient suffering from pain after having an impact wisdom tooth and crack molar extraction. This mouthwash greatly accelerates the process of healing, and my client was extremely satisfied with it.
